It all started with the question on the table: How can we create a safe environment for people to shake off training baggage? Where they feel safe to contribute experiences and stories?
So many wonderful ideas to try!
This was clearly a topic that resonated with everyone. The chat was a high-traffic area!
This is what I love about our community. We are a group that shares gracefully and discusses ideas with the intention of learning from each other - a very real representation of creating a safe haven for discussions.
And in true Coffee Chat style, questions begat questions.
- We discussed that most trainers have a ground rule around expecting everyone to speak up and participate, but what does that mean?
- What about those who don’t feel comfortable?
- Have we prepared alternative methods of participation that don’t put people in the limelight?
- Then we moved from setting expectations for participants, to setting expectations for ourselves. How do we model behaviors we want to see? Are we accessible, visible, open?
- Heather had a great point, about trying to do away with the negative stigma about asking questions = I'm not as smart/good.
