How can we focus more on developing people than developing programs?
This is the question on the table today as we discuss leadership development with Andrew Jacobs, Host of Women Talking about Learning Podcast.
There were many things that covered in this week's coffee chat but the heart of the matter is knowing that if we aren’t prepared to address the cultural issues that are embedded within organizations, then ANY leadership development program will fail. So now what? How can we rethink Leadership.
In the linked images, Andrew shares his framework for moving forward – the focus being on people, rather than programs. We can have the BEST leadership development programs, but if they do not address capability and the organization isn’t prepared to support capacity...then it’s an uphill battle.
The conversation around the 5 Factors Creating Performance Change was quite interesting and thought provoking.
Start with
- Knowing the aims of the program
- Preparing to support relationships and structure
- Have in place processes and systems to support development
- Address behaviors and skills
- Wrap it up and have it underpinned with a cultural blanket
There was so much more and I hope you have your pen and paper ready to take some serious notes!
